Thank you for taking the time to check out my new music. 2020 marks the first proper solo release since 2010’s ProJect Alchemist e.p., and with this, I continue striving to create new, exciting, and thought-provoking experiences with music, as well as lighting and visual media, for humans at home and around the world.
There has been a lot learned over the past ten years. As composer, producer, performer and creative designer for internationally renowned artists, Mike St-Jean has earned the opportunity of enjoying outstanding coffees the world over. From 2010 to 2018, he toured internationally with the Devin Townsend Project, designing lighting + visuals, from clubs to headlining international open-air festivals. From 2014 onward, he jumped on stage, playing keys + electronics, while continuing to design and operate playback automation for all audio, video + lighting, including the live for DVD performance at London’s historic Royal Albert Hall. His time with the DTP also saw them earn a Juno Award for best Metal + Hard Music Album of the Year.
More lighting + visuals collaborations include international tours with TesseracT, Anathema, guitar virtuoso Steve Vai, for the 25th Anniversary of his Passion & Warfare release, and with the renowned guitarists of Generation Axe, as well as with multiple Juno Award Acclaimed R&B artist Daniel Caesar and legendary horror film director John Carpenter.
Mike has continued writing and recording, including collaborations with the Young Bros. + Dominique Fricot, as Regal, and Toronto-based auteur Marley Rosen, aka Liar’s Rosebush | Ada Vale. While the thread has remained constant since 2010, always seeking purpose, clarity, and meaning in the experiences that make up each and every one's own universe, and providing through music a backdrop for the adventures, heavy moments and deep thinking in life, Mike's technical abilities, and musical sensibility has evolved through the rich mosaic of nomadic summers, grand scale productions and listening and learning from the brilliant souls he's had the opportunity to compliment.
It is with great excitement that we start this new journey with the release of New Planet, the last track of Mike's sophomore release, due September 2020. As the final piece of the album, it marks not only direction forward, but an reflection of what is yet to come- the sonic moments that make up the journey of the last ten years, and take us along this thread, from where the alchemist e.p. began, to arrive at New Planet.
Inspiration for the new album include Bonobo, Jon Hopkins, Cinematic Orchestra, Kiasmos [Ólafur Arnalds], and Moderat.
